🤔 Zuko Explains Sikhism (Punjab Sikhs) — a guided journey through belief, meaning, and hope

Sikhism began in the Punjab region and is shaped by devotion to one God, reverence for the Guru’s teaching, prayer and moral living, and a strong emphasis on community and service. Many Sikhs are warm, family-focused, and sincere about God, justice, and humility.

In this series, we gently explore Sikh beliefs and practices, then compare them with what the Bible says about God, sin, salvation, assurance, and the person and work of Jesus. The goal is not to “win” an argument, but to help you SOS (Study, Obey, Share) with honesty and love.

If you are here because you care about a Sikh friend or neighbour: breathe, slow down, and keep the relationship. Truth is not fragile. You do not need to rush.

📚 Series map (what’s in here)
Part 1: Who are the Sikhs? (Punjab, the Gurus, the community)

A friendly orientation: where Sikhism began, what “Guru” means in Sikhism, the role of the Guru Granth Sahib, and why Sikhs are often misunderstood.

Open Part 1

Part 2: One God, many words (Waheguru, names, prayer, worship)

What Sikhs mean by one God, devotion, remembrance, and daily prayer. Compare this carefully with the Bible’s revelation of God’s name, character, and holiness.

Open Part 2

Part 3: Sin, karma, and the problem of the heart

How Sikhism frames moral failure, ego, karma, and spiritual growth. Then SOS the Bible’s diagnosis: sin, guilt, bondage, and the need for a new heart.

Open Part 3

Part 4: Salvation, grace, and assurance (can you know?)

Sikh emphasis on devotion, remembrance, and upright living. Compare with the Bible’s message of grace, atonement, and assurance in Christ.

Open Part 4

Part 5: The Guru Granth Sahib and Scripture (authority and testing)

How Sikh scripture functions, and how the Bible calls us to test teachings and spirits. This is where gentle, careful comparison matters most.

Open Part 5

Part 6: Jesus in Sikh thought vs Jesus in the Bible

Many Sikhs respect Jesus as a holy teacher. The Bible presents far more: Lord, Saviour, and the Lamb of God who takes away sin. This sets up the apologetics section later.

🧭 SOS starters (Study, Obey, Share)
Study: a few anchor passages to SOS slowly
  • Acts 17:11 (test teaching by Scripture)
  • Isaiah 6:1–7 (God’s holiness and our uncleanness)
  • Mark 10:17–22 (good deeds can’t cure the heart)
  • Romans 3:20–26 (sin, justice, and God’s provision)
  • Ephesians 2:8–10 (grace, faith, then good works)
  • John 14:6 (Jesus’ exclusive claim, gently handled)
Obey: what does repentance look like in real life?

Ask: where do I rely on my own goodness, identity, heritage, or religious performance? What would it mean to surrender to God’s verdict and receive His mercy on His terms?

Share: a gentle conversation posture

Start with respect and curiosity. Ask a Sikh friend what they believe about God, sin, and hope. Share your story simply. Offer to read one Gospel passage together and let the text lead.

🕊️ Gentle apologetics

This section will be added later. It will focus on calm, Scripture-led comparison: holiness, sin, sacrifice, grace, assurance, and the uniqueness of Christ.
