Exploring Christadelphian Beliefs — A Self-Discovery Bible Study (SOS)

For Seekers of the Truth - Let the Bible speak for itself!

This article is designed to help you explore Scripture for yourself using a simple self-discovery Bible method called SOS.  It is a simple process - for each block of scripture apply these three questions:

  • S — What does the passage SAY?
  • O — What must I OBEY or apply?
  • S — Who can I SHARE this with?

Each section below asks a question and provides Bible passages so you can discover the answers directly from Scripture.

Question 1 — Who Is Jesus?

Read:

  • John 1:1–14
  • Colossians 1:15–20
  • Hebrews 1

Ask:

  • What titles are given to Jesus?
  • What existed before creation?
  • What role does Jesus have in creation?
  • Who receives worship in these passages?

Question 2 — What Did the Cross Accomplish?

Read:

  • Isaiah 53
  • Romans 3:21–26
  • 2 Corinthians 5:18–21

Ask:

  • Who acts to save in these passages?
  • Who provides atonement?
  • Is forgiveness something God does alone, or through someone?
  • Who bears sin, guilt, and judgment?

Question 3 — How Is Salvation Received?

Read:

  • John 3:16–18, 36
  • Romans 10:9–13
  • Acts 16:30–31

Ask:

  • Who is called upon for salvation?
  • What must be believed about Jesus?
  • What does it mean to “call on His name”?
  • Why does Paul quote Joel 2:32 (Hebrew Bible) in that Romans passage?

“Everyone who calls on the name of YHWH shall be saved.”

(This is unambiguous — the speaker is Yahweh Himself.  The Greek Septuagint Hebrew Bible substitutes the Greek title 'Kyrios' - Lord,  wherever YHWH - Yahweh, is used as the name of God.)

  • Why does Paul ask us to confess that Jesus is Lord (Kyrios) in Romans 10:9 and then Quotes Joel 2:32 (using Jesus as Lord) in Romans 10:12?  What is Paul trying to tell you?!

Question 4 — If Jesus Is Only a Perfect Man…

Read:

  • Matthew 28:17
  • John 20:28–31
  • Mark 2:5–12
  • Philippians 2:9–11

Ask:

  • Why are people commanded to worship Him?
  • Why are prayers and salvation directed to Him?
  • Why does He forgive sins?
  • Why is His name above every name?

Question 5 — What Is Jesus’ Role at the End?

Read:

  • Matthew 25:31–46
  • Acts 17:30–31
  • John 5:22–29
  • 2 Timothy 4:1

Ask:

  • Who brings about judgment?
  • Who sits as judge?
  • Who raises the dead?
  • Why has judgment been entrusted to Him?

Question 6 — Where Will Jesus Sit and Reign?

Read:

  • Daniel 7:13–14
  • Psalm 110:1
  • Matthew 26:64
  • Revelation 5:9–14
  • Revelation 22:1–5

Ask:

  • Where is Jesus positioned at the end?
  • What authority is given to Him?
  • Who shares God’s throne?
  • Who receives eternal worship?

Take your time. Read carefully. Let Scripture answer Scripture. Ask what the text says, how it should be obeyed, and who you might share it with.
