When someone argues for an unjustifiable exception to the rule or applies a double standard, they are using the "Special Pleading Fallacy".  This is a type of "Red Herring".

Examples:

Secular Example:

Dad: "I thought that we agreed that you would not have any more screen time this week? Son: "But Ben played Mine Craft all last week; how is that fair? This is a different game; it is Mine Craft Education Edition."  They agreed that there should be no screen time, with no explicit exceptions.

Kingdom Example:

After explaining the gospel to someone, I often hear the following words: "So what you are telling me is that remote tribes in the jungle with no chance of hearing this message will automatically go to hell without any chance of redemption." How fair is that?" Then you find yourself tempted to pursue that rabbit further.

My response (as a very poor evangelist) is: " There is an answer to that question, which we can explore later, but you are not in a jungle and you have just heard the message, so that does not apply to you. " Now your dilemma is: "What are you going to do about it?" Obviously, I would not be so blunt, but you get the picture.
